We went to Amsterdam for a week. The city is amazing with wide range of museums for all kind of museum lovers. In this page you can see all of the top museums in Amsterdam (some of them deserve to be part of the Amsterdam top 10 thing to do list).

Allard Pierson Museum (Oude Turfmarkt 127; €6,50): Archaeological museum of University of Amsterdam. There are original objects from ancient cultures dating 4000 BC - 500 AD.

Amsterdam Botanic Garden (Plantage Middenlaan 2a; €7,50): In the Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam, one of the oldest botanic gardens in the world, there are more than 4.000 plant species from around the world. By ships of the Dutch East India Company, museum expanded so easily in th3 17th and 18th centuries.

Amsterdam Historisch Museum (Kalverstraa 92; €10): You will witness the born of Amsterdam city by photos, film materials, the rich collection of works of art, objects, and archaelogical finds. There are very wide range of objects from modern forms of multimedia to mediaeval child's shoe to show you the history of Amsterdam.

Anne Frank House (Prinsengracht 267; €8,50): During the World War II a little girl was hiding to escape from Nazis in this house and writing stories to dairy as her best friend.

De Appel Art Centre (Eerste Jacob van Campenstraat 59; €7): De Appel Art Centre offers contemporary art to its visitors. In this international oriented arts centre you can find various exhibitions and performances.

ARCAM Amsterdam Architectuur Centrum (Prins Hendrikkade 600): Information source for architecture, urbanism and landscape architecture with many exhibitions and events

Artis Royal Zoo and Aquarium (Plantage Kerklaan 38 - 40; €18,95): In Artis there are more than 200 plant species and 900 species of animals. Zoo is about app. 10 minutes tramride from Dam Square. In this hidden secret of Amsterdam you will relax and enjoy released butterflies in butterfly pavilion, Amazonian rainforest, and historical aquarium and maybe insectarium :)

Amsterdam Museum of Bags and Purses (Herengracht 573; €7,50): The Museum of Bags and Purses offers you the biggest collection of bags and purses from 16th century to today.

De Burcht (Henri Polaklaan 9): In this historical building of the Diamond Workers Union, you can find the history of Dutch trade unions.

Dutch Resistance Museum (Plantage Kerklaan 61; €7,50): You will learn the everyday life of World War II in the Netherlands best historical museum. You will find the routine of resistance of a nation like underground newspapers, escape routes, documents...

Museum Geelvinck (Keizersgracht 633, €8): In this historical canal mansion you should see 18. and 19. centuries' life style and home decoration.

Hermitage Amsterdam (Amstel 51, €15): This museum, located in the city center, presents wide range of art from temporary the Flemish art collection of the Hermitage St. Petersburgh to the masterpieces of Van Gogh Museum.

Amsterdam National Maritime Museum (Kattenburgerplein 1, €15): One of the Amsterdam's biggest historical buildings links Dutch maritime from 1650s to today. Museum shows cultural effect of the sea for Dutch people. Also there are special exhibitions for children.

NEMO Science Center (Oosterdok 2, €12,50): By the Netherlands biggest science center you will discover science and technology in a enjoyment way. Netherlands Media Art Institute (Keizersgracht 264, €4,50): The Institute yearlys presents four exhibitions of video, film, internet and other media art from young talents to famous international artists. Additional to these they presents shorter and experimental exhibitions, too.

Nieuwe Kerk (Dam Square, €8): The Netherlands most exciting church, located at Dam Square presents large scale exhibitions from other religions and cultures. Also if you visit the Netherlands during Christmas you may attend organ concerts.

Oude Kerk (Oudekerksplein, €5): This oldest building in the city once founded by fishermen would become the imposing medieval monument. The Old Church serves as a place of worship and also as a concert venue, wedding venue, exhibition and reception space. From Amsterdam's earliest days Amsterdam citizens were buried there. This church became the resting place for over 10.000 Amsterdam citizen from 1300 to 1865. Now they try to achieve the anonymous citizens’ names by their web page.

Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder Müzesi (Oudezijds Voorburgwal 40, €8): In this original 17th-century home you will find a complete hidden church built during the Reformation.

The Press Museum (Zeeburgerkade 10, €4,50): The Press Museum has a collection of newspapers and magazines from 1600. Also museum presents posters, advertising, a collection of political cartoons and an extensive archives.

Rembrandt's House (Jodenbreestraat 4, €10): The House where Rembrandt lived between 1639 and 1658 was constructed in 1606. Now the museum presents Rembrandt’s 260 graphic works, a group of 78 copper plates sold directly by Rembrandt, and four of the finest specimens. Also museum owns paintings from his pupils his

Royal Palace Amsterdam (Dam Square, €7,50): The Royal Palace, most famous building of the capital of the Netherlands, was originally designed as a city hall and became a destination Palace. Now visitors can walk on the magnificent halls like a Royal Family member who now use this palace for their official ceremonies. Paintings and sculptures from famous artists, a collection of Empire furniture outside France, and annually changing exhibitions are bonuses for visitors.

Amsterdam City Archives (Vijzelstraat 32): The archives is a source for documentation of Amsterdam which includes topographical maps, drawings, prints, sound, film and photo archives to who want to achieve the history of and all about Amsterdam.

Stedelijk City Museum (Museumplein 10, €10): Museum presents different art trends to its visitors.

Tropenmuseum (Linnaeusstraat 2, €9): The Tropenmuseum houses different stories, artworks and objects from different cultures through time and the world. In the museum you can discover culture of 350 years of Dutch colonialism. For instance in New Guinea exhibition you will learn about body art, headhunting, music, rituals of their culture. The Tropenmuseum offers stories about Africa South of the Sahara, Latin America, the Caribbean, West Asia, North Africa, India and its neighbors.

Van Gogh Museum (Museumplein 4, €14): The biggest of its kind, the museum houses Van Gogh's different kind of works: landscapes, self-portraits, portraits, drawings, peasant life, still life, and many others. Moreover the museum has a rich collection of Van Gogh's friends and contemporaries.

Rijsmuseum (Jan Luijkenstraat, 1, €12,50): The museum presents the Netherlands golden age with more 400 work of art which includes paintings, sculpture & applied art, asiatic art, archaeological artefacts, clothing, weapons and photographs.

Museum Van Loon (Keizersgracht 672, €8): The Museum Van Loon, designed in 1672 was housed to the painter Ferdinand Bol, a pupil of Rembrandt. The house still offers the same atmosphere from that century by portraits, beautiful furniture, fine china and silverware. Even garden of the house presents the style of the 17th century. By visiting the museum you will witness the wealth of Amsterdam.

Ship Museum (Spaarndammerplantsoen 140, €7,50): Building of the Ship Museum is known as "The Ship" because of its shape. Actually the museum was a one year project. However it becomes a permanent institution. The exhibits in the museum share the development of Amsterdam School which is a movement in architecture. In the museum you will find the details of the social conditions that have made it possible that such an architecture has to develop.

The Willet-Holthuysen Museum (Herengracht 605, €8): If you're wondering the wealth of the Amsterdam in 17th century the museum will be just for you. The last residents of the house were Abraham Willet and his wife Louisa Holthuysen. In their last will they opened the house including the furniture to the city of Amsterdam. The collection in the museum is very varied opposite to the classical Dutch collectors who focused mainly on drawings, prints and paintings only. However Willet – Holthuysen collection covers paintings, ceramics, glassware, furniture and sculptures.

Heineken Experience (Stadhouderskade 78, €16): The Heineken Experience presents all processes that a Heineken beer needs. First you will learn how lager is produced. Then you will see, taste, and smell the ingredients of a Heineken. After that you will witness the process of brewing process while having fun in interactive attractions. Finally you will bottle your own Heineken.
